TROPECOS is organized in four Workpackages (WPs). WP 1 focuses on estuaries and WPs 2, 3 and 4 focus on mangroves. WP1 and WP2 deal with the quantification of carbon fluxes at the scale of ecosystems and at the global scale, and mostly are based on in situ carbon concentrations and flux measurements, remote sensing and modeling. WP3 and WP4 will document the processes that control the balance between organic carbon storage and remineralization at the molecular and microbial scales in mangrove soils, and are based on geochemical and biomolecular analysis and mesocosm experiments.
